A lot has happened in the last month (has it really been a month?). We're just a couple of months out from our departure date and a few things are done but more keep cropping up as we tick others off. At the moment, I'm trying to sort through the nightmare French consulate red tape, updating my CV which I haven't looked at in over 8 years, donating a whole lot of baby and toddler clothes to a local charity (thereby getting rid of a load of boxes that we now won't have to move), and wondering about working. On top of that, there's work and lots of family and Austin's friends' parties, second job 2-3 Saturdays a month and reviews of a book and a website that I've promised. Busy busy!
Good news: we got our work permits for Canada. What a relief! Updating my CV has become a priority before we leave but actually looking for a job will have to wait until we get there when we can put Austin in daycare. Daycare will also have to wait until we've arrived at the end of July so we can visit a few and make sure he's going to one that is best for us. I can't imagine booking one in from here without seeing the premises and facilities and talking to the people who will look after him. Pretty scary after nearly 4 years with his current daycare!
As far as what to do with our house here is concerned, things have been coming along. Some people who we hoped would move in to it fully furnished (ie, we wouldn't have to put any furniture into storage!) decided not to so we've advertised in another area and hopefully will find someone to take care of the place while we're away.
I saw my grandmother in hospital tonight - she had a stroke a couple of months ago, rehabilitated enough to be sent home, then 6 days later had another stroke and ended up at the beginning again but worse. She's a strong-willed woman (now I know where I get some aspect of my pigheadedness from!) and is persevering with the exercises they're making her do but she of course gets down being in hospital and not at home, and not speaking English only makes it worse. I keep thinking of being away for 6 months and worry that I won't see her again after we leave. She did, however, talk about a visit to France next year when I visited her tonight so she may just be pigheaded enough to stick around until then, even if her body is packing it in!
I feel like this post is all over the place but it's a true idea of what's going on in my head at the moment, the constant thinking about all different things to do with the move and not. It's like my brain's been shaken up and everything's taking its time to fall into place. Hopefully on 21st of July it will!
